Service at the University of Georgia
Kappa Alpha Theta strives to create the widest influence for good and our chapter members are dedicated to serving our local community in Athens and around the world!
Our members are involved with many different organizations on-campus such as UGA HEROs, UGA Miracle, UGA Relay for Life, Operation Smile, UGA Shop With a Bulldawg, and the UGA Red Cross. Thetas can also be found coaching local soccer teams or tutoring kids through the Athens-Clarke County Mentor program, just to name a few!
We believe that giving back provides us all with a better awareness of the needs in our community and helps each member develop a genuine heart for service that will last long after her college days.
Many Thetas are involved in UGA Miracle, a student organization benefitting Children's Miracle Network, including nearby Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. At Dance Marathon 2016 a group of Thetas stayed up for an entire 24 hours “For the Kids” as they heard from affected families and "danced" for donations. This year, Senior Amy Jones (pictured above, left) serves as the Executive Director of the organization.
With a variety of mentoring and coaching programs in the Athens community, there are endless possibilities to get involved. Several Thetas such as senior Maiben Watkins (pictured above), spend their Saturday mornings coaching local soccer teams, while others volunteer on the weekdays by mentoring elementary school children!
Last spring, Junior Abby Jessen spent her spring break on a service learning trip to Indiana!
A group of Thetas spent their spring break on a mission trip in Cabaret, Haiti with CRU at UGA. This coming spring break another group of Thetas is headed back to Haiti to serve as well!
Each Halloween, UGA Panhellenic Council hosts an event called "Trunk or Treat" benefitting the local Boys and Girls Club. Theta's Panhellenic Representatives always look forward to participating to benefit the local branch of this amazing organization.
